New Asia Chamber Music Society’s
Annual Concert “Unwavering Light”
Despite the changing circumstance in the performing art world in 2020, the New Asia Chamber Music Society (New Asia CMS) is determined to provide music and comfort to the world community through our 2020 annual concert “Unwavering Light”, featuring a newly commissioned work and Beethoven’s piano quartet to celebrate the composer’s 250th birthday.
This live virtual concert opens with Beethoven’s Piano Quartet in E-flat Major, Op.16, transcribed by the composer himself from his Quintet for Piano and Winds, Op.16, composed in 1796. Follows by Unwavering Light (world premiere), commissioned by NACMS from composer Ke-Chia Chen, highlights an unusual instrumentation for erhu (Chinese violin), violin, and cello. The title of the work gave this concert its name, which suggests and reflects people’s courage and determination during the 2020 pandemic crisis, and of which resonates with Beethoven’s spirit shown in his personality and compositions. The concert concludes with Schumann’s Piano Quartet in E-flat Major, Op. 47, one of the most celebrated work in chamber music repertoire, brings out the notion of warmth and positive energy in humanity. The concert features four core musicians of NACMS - violinist Cindy Wu, violist Andy Lin, cellist Nan-Cheng Chen and pianist Fei-Fei.
This concert will be live recorded for New Asia CMS’ third album.
