“Music Serenades Community” Special Concert

We are bringing audiences exceptional performances of the chamber music repertoire to the Flushing community. The program consists of music from around the world, including Austria, China, Finland, Germany, Japan, Sweden, and Taiwan. One of New Asia CMS’s missions is to serve the Asian community with exciting performances and innovative programs. We are taking our audience on a cross-cultural musical journey with exceptional chamber music works that bring the whole world together.

Nan-Cheng Chen, cello
Cellist Nan-Cheng Chen’s performance was recently described as “personable and smile-inducing” and “fine playing” by Washington Post and “Beautiful Tone” by New York Concert Reviews. As a chamber musician, Nan-Cheng is the executive director and co-founder of the New Asia Chamber Music Society (NACMS). An active soloist,  Nan-Cheng Chen was featured in concert tours throughout North and South American, Europe and Asia, and has collaborated with Simon Bolivar Orchestra, National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, Taipei Symphony Orchestra, Queens Symphony Orchestra, Metro-West Symphony, Quincy Symphony and Symphony Pro Musica, which received a review that states: “It was the kind of performance one might hear live only once a decade”, from Worcester Telegram and Gazette.

Yu-Ting Cheng, clarinet
Hailed for her “extraordinary virtuosity” (CHIMI Arts Award), as well as for her “sublime playing” and “radiant tone” (Pulitzer Prize-winning composer John Corigliano), Taiwanese clarinetist Dr. Yu-Ting Cheng has revealed her uncommon musical versatility and earned recognition as a solo artist by winning numerous first prizes in her younger career, including the national music competition Hsing-Tien Kong Young Artist Award, the 2019 Stony Brook Concerto Competition, the 32nd CHIMEI Arts Award and the 5th North International Music Competition. Additionally, Yu-Ting is the recipient of the 2015 Valeri Canady Foundation Scholarship in clarinet performance and the 2017 Outstanding Alumni Award of Taiwan Chapter Society of Peabody Conservatory Alumni. Awarded fellowships by the highly reputable Norfolk New Music Workshop (2019) and LUCERNE Festival Academy (2020), Yu-Ting’s exceptional and remarkable performance on contemporary music is unparalleled in the field of her work.  Read more.

Ying Li, piano
Twenty-three-year-old Chinese pianist Ying Li has performed throughout Asia, Europe, and North America. As a soloist, she has worked with many orchestras, including her most recent debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra in March 2020. As an avid chamber musician, Ying has performed at festivals including Ravinia’s Steans Institute in Chicago, La Jolla Music Society in San Diego, and Verbier Festival Academy in Switzerland. Also a recipient of numerous awards, Ying is the winner of the Artist Series of Sarasota National Piano Competition and the Liszt Competition for Young Pianists in Russia. Currently pursuing a master of music degree at The Juilliard School, Ying holds a bachelor of music degree from the Curtis Institute of Music.

Andy Lin, viola/erhu
Taiwanese born violist and erhuist, Wei-Yang Andy Lin, is recognized as one of the most promising and the only active performers who specialized in both western and eastern instruments.  Praised by The Strad “The great Molto adagio…..elicited some of the night’s most sensitive work, especially from Wei-Yang Andy Lin on viola.” and New York Times “Taiwanese-born violist Wei-Yang Andy Lin..…is also a virtuoso on the erhu, and he gave a brilliant performance.” Andy is the artistic director and co-founder of the New Asia Chamber Music Society and holds his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The Juilliard School and his Doctor’s degree in Musical Arts from SUNY Stony Brook.  He has won numerous competitions including Taiwan National Viola Competition and First Prize in the 2008 Juilliard Viola Concerto Competition. Read full bio. Kelly Lin, piano
Dr. Kelly Yu-Chieh Lin, is a Taiwanese pianist, who has regular appearances at the Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.  Dr. Lin is the piano faculty and accompanist for the Berkshire Summer Music, the Meadowmount School of Music, the Westminster Piano High School Camp, 4string Music Festival, and Sphinx Summer Education Program. Currently a collaborative pianist at Juilliard school, Mannes the new school, Manhattan School of Music, and Young Concert Artist. In addition, Dr. Lin is the accompanist for Eric Whitacre in the New York region at the Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. In 2019, Dr. Lin was invited to accompany to the 16th International Tchaikovsky Competition in Russia. During Pandemic 2021, she was invited to perform a special music series called Musical Storefront Series. In September 2021, she was invited by the Violin Channel Vanguard Concert Series to perform with Xavier Foley. Dr. Lin studied with John Perry and Daniel Epstein when pursuing BM, MM, and DMA, where she received full scholarship for all her music education.

Keiko Tokunaga, violin
Winner of the 2020 GRAMMY Award for Best Chamber Music/ Small Ensemble Performance, violinist Keiko Tokunaga spends most of her days touring and performing globally as a soloist and chamber musician. Ms. Tokunaga has performed, toured, and recorded extensively with the internationally acclaimed Attacca Quartet from 2005 to 2019, and has been praised by the Strings Magazine for possessing a sound “with probing quality that is supple and airborne” and for her “pure, pellucid bow strokes”. Ms. Tokunaga has soloed with various orchestras including the Spanish National Orchestra, Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona I Nacional de Catalunya, and Virginia Arts Festival Chamber Orchestra. In 2016, Ms. Tokunaga released her debut album, Jewels, from New York Classics Label.  She is currently on faculty at The Juilliard School’s Pre-College as well as Fordham University.
