In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, New Asia Chamber Music Society presents A Nation in Harmony, an evening celebrating the many voices, cultures, and traditions that continue to shape the American story.
Like chamber music itself, America is created through the meeting of distinct voices, each carrying its own history, identity, and perspective. From the pioneering voice of African American composer William Grant Still and the distinctly American sound world of Aaron Copland, to Taiwanese-American composer Apple Chang’s contemporary dialogue between Eastern and Western traditions, the program reflects a nation whose cultural identity has continually evolved through exchange, migration, and diversity.
Works by Mendelssohn and Chausson broaden that story beyond American borders, acknowledging the European musical traditions that became part of America’s cultural foundation and continue to interact with voices from around the world.
A Nation in Harmony celebrates not one definition of American music, but the extraordinary collection of voices that has made—and continues to make—America.
