Karen Jang, Violin (Young Artist)

20-year old Karen Jang is a student at Barnard College and the Manhattan School of Music (MSM). Karen is a violinist in the Columbia University Orchestra (2019-present) and a recipient of the Columbia University Dolan Prize (2019-2020), a competitive music scholarship. After auditioning, she also participates in the MSM Lesson Exchange Program, where she is in Peter Winograd's studio (2020-present).

Karen has been studying classical violin with Andy Lin since she was eight (2009-present). She has pursued chamber music studies as a Young Artist in the New Asia Chamber Music Society since 2018. An alumnus of Horace Mann School, Karen performed at the Horace Mann gala as a student representative (2019) and, through her performance, raised financial aid. She graduated with honors in music (2019). Karen attended the MSM Precollege Division throughout high school, studying with Béla Horvath (2015-2019). In addition, she attended Tanglewood Music Festival's Young Artists Orchestra program (summer 2018) and was a member of the Manhattan String Orchestra (2017-2018).

Karen has received special recognition in competitions, including 1st place and the Tony Avella New York State Senate Award at the 4th Edition of the New York International Music Concours Competition (2018) and 2nd place at the 2nd Edition of the Great Composers Competition Best Schumann Performance (2018).
