Rita Wang, Violin

Musician

Ms. Wang has established herself as an internationally active soloist and chamber musician. Following her solo debut at age eleven in Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, Ms. Wang has performed in renowned venues across the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, and East Asia.

 In 2018 Ms. Wang received the 5th place at the XXI Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig, after having won the 1st prize at the Coer d’Alene Young Concert Artist Competition, 3rd prize at the Fischoff Competition and the 1st prize at the International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition. Her strong passions towards different genre of music and performance roles have led her to collaborate with artists of diverse contexts, including Jaap ter Linden, Cynthia Roberts, Michael Lynn, Lee Hyla, Christian Wolff, Anna Chumachenko, Midori, Robert McDonald, the members of the Juilliard String Quartet, Cleveland Quartet, Bretano Quartet, Shanghai Quartet, A Far Cry, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic.

 As a native of Taiwan, Ms. Wang began learning the violin at age six. After receiving several awards in Taiwan, she decided to pursue her musical studies in the United States and attended the Walnut Hill Arts School at age fourteen, studying with Lynn Chang. During her years at the Walnut Hill Arts School, Ms. Wang was selected as the concertmaster of the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra directed by Benjamin Zander and toured extensively in China, Venezuela, and Brazil. Ms. Wang continued her study with Miriam Fried at New England Conservatory for her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, and worked extensively with Kim Kashkashian. In 2018, Ms. Wang received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from University of Michigan, studying with Aaron Berofsky.

 Teaching has also been a great passion for Ms. Wang. At the University of Michigan, she served as the Graduate Assistant Instructor, as well as the teaching assistant of Aaron Berofsky, Stephen Shipps, and Michael Hopkins. Since 2007, Rita has been dedicating to her own private studios in Boston, Ann Arbor, and New York City, where she currently resides.
