About: You may have heard of composers composing a piece of music, but do you know how musicians arrange a piece of music? Renowned violinist, Wei-Chung (Daniel) Chiang, has composed and arranged many works outside his performance career. In this workshop, he will share some of his works and the inspirations behind his compositions and arrangements. The workshop will also feature a live performance by violist Andy Lin and pianist Kelly Lin showcasing a newly composed “theme and variation” for viola and piano.

*This workshop will be in both Chinese and English.

Wei-Chung Chiang
A renowned violinist, Wei-Chung Chiang served as the concertmaster of Taipei Symphony Orchestra for more than 25 years. He received his master’s degree in violin performance from Manhattan School of Music studying with Albert Markov. Upon graduating, he returned to Taiwan and began his music career as a performer, educator, and composer/arranger. Other than being acknowledged as one of the top violin instructors in Taiwan, he was also teaching masterclasses and prerequisite courses at various universities. He has taught in the music departments at the National Normal University, the Soochow University, and the National Taipei University of the Arts. Mr.Chiang is also a composer and arranger mostly for his notable work in sacred music and Taiwanese folk songs for solo, chamber, and orchestral arrangements of all kinds. Mr. Chiang retired from the concertmaster post of the Taipei Symphony Orchestra in July 2016. He has moved to New York to be with his family and now dedicates his time to teaching and writing.

It’s casual, it’s fun and a great opportunity to learn more about music.
