Music Inspired by Xin Hun Bie (新婚別 The Newlywed's Farewell) by Chinese Tang Dynasty Poet 杜甫 Du Fu (712－770)
What happens when poetry becomes music? Join NACMS artistic director and erhuist Dr. Andy Lin and pianist Kelly Lin for an intimate exploration of program music through 新婚別 (The Newlywed's Farewell), a contemporary work inspired by the Tang dynasty poem by 杜甫 Du Fu (712-770). Discover how composers transform literary imagery, emotion, and storytelling into musical expression, and hear how the erhu's uniquely expressive voice brings this timeless tale of love, separation, and sacrifice to life.
Part lecture and part performance, this interactive Between the Bars event invites audiences to experience the powerful dialogue between poetry and music while gaining a deeper appreciation for one of China's greatest literary masterpieces and its modern musical interpretation.

Between the Bars is a monthly, intimate workshop led by NACMS artists, offering our members a unique space to explore music in a relaxed and casual setting. Each session features a topic, chosen by our artists, who bring music, stories, and insights to the conversation. Designed for people of all backgrounds, these workshops provide a welcoming environment to learn, share, and connect—no prior musical experience required.

Andy’s Birthday Concert
For this special birthday presentation, Andy will share another side of his musical journey, performing additional selections that have been meaningful to him as an artist.
Rather than a formal concert, this intimate presentation will combine music and personal stories—celebrating another year of making music, building community, and sharing the stage with friends.
