Continuing the celebration of Beethoven’s 250th birthday, NACMS brings you a program that features the rare sighting of Beethoven’s playful, friendly, and blissfully heavenly sides.

Beethoven wrote his duo for viola and cello in E flat— nicknamed “Eyeglasses” to play with a dear friend of his that was a cellist. The humor and competitive fun of this work is a gem that shows us a side of Beethoven we rarely see. Besides the magnificent breadth of repertoire Beethoven created throughout his life, he also pushed the boundaries of instrumental composition. He shaped the future of the duo partnership between cello and piano with five sonatas and three sets of variations. The 7 Variations in E flat for cello and piano is based on a theme from Mozart’s Magic Flute. To end the program, is one of his most celebrated and beloved chamber music works— Piano Trio “Archduke”. It is one of the most purely heavenly pieces Beethoven has ever written.

You don’t want to miss this program, nor what comes next in this celebration of classical music’s biggest giant. Many more amazing works by Beethoven to be performed in the rest of the season!
